Annual Public Service Announcement (PSA) to bring awareness to child abuse:

PSA to create awareness about the dangers children face when raised in homes where substance use/abuse occurs: In partnership with the Treasure Valley Alcohol and Drug Coalition, the Idaho Child Abuse Prevention Coalition developed the following PSA in 2006 and will run it again this year:

Strawful Predicament: Unfortunately, 85% of all child abuse and neglect cases in Region IV involve some sort of alcohol or substance use or manufacturing.  This PSA is meant to grab the attention of peripheral caretakers and extended family members who may know of a parent (or parents) with substance use issues or who are manufacturing methamphetamine in the presence of children.  All it takes is a phone call to get help for these families and provide a safe home for the children involved.

Blue ribbon project:

The Blue Ribbon Campaign is gaining momentum both here in Idaho and nationally. It is one way that everyone in our community can play a role in child abuse prevention. Wearing a ribbon is a reminder to think about the problem of child abuse. Others wear a ribbon as a demonstration of concern and their commitment to finding solutions.

The ribbon was first used by a grandmother in Virginia to commemorate the death of the grandchild she loved and was unable to protect from abusive parents. The ribbon was a solution to galvanize local action to safeguard children. The idea spread to become a national symbol during April. Blue, the color of hope, is used in hope that we stop all child maltreatment.

Citizens and parents concerned about the problem of child abuse and neglect are challenged to display a blue ribbon in every business, every church and synagogue, every school, every hospital and every home… everywhere the eye can see. Thousands in Idaho and across the nation are responding to the challenge each year in April.

Celebration of Children and Families:

Each year the Coalition coordinates a positive event to encourage families to spend time together.  Planned for April 26th, this event will be held at the Discovery Center.  Click here for details.

Blue Sunday:

Blue Sunday, a national initiative, is a time when churches all across American take time in their morning service to pray for the victims of child abuse and neglect.  Over two million churches participate each year.  National Blue Sunday falls on April 27th, 2008.  The Idaho Child Abuse Prevention Coalition is requesting that all churches in Idaho do one of the following on National Blue Sunday:

  1. Pray for victims of child abuse and neglect and those that rescue them.

  2. Talk about child abuse and prevention during the Sunday service (click here for talking points or more information).

  3. Include all or a portion of the child abuse prevention information in a bulletin or newsletter.
